Getting To Know: Ginseng

What are the benefits of Ginseng?

Ginseng is a root that has been used in East Asia for centuries. A staple part of Chinese medicine for its ability to both stimulate and relax the nervous system and improve stamina, it was traditionally consumed orally in the form of teas and tinctures. Popularly used topically as well, it may well be the secret to the amazing skin that women in East Asia boast of.

It has antioxidant properties because it is packed to the brim with phytonutrients. These protect your skin from free radical environmental damage and prevent the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots. Ginseng also has the ability to inhibit production of melanin which makes it the perfect natural root to combat hyperpigmentation. The antioxidants also prevent the production of excess oil and hence balance sebum production.

Ginseng and Collagen production

Ginseng is one of the original super foods. It has properties that can radically boost your skin and hair care routines. Ginseng can radically improve the synthesis and production of collagen in the skin’s dermis. This enables it to firm, tone, and plump skin while diminishing signs of ageing like fine lines and wrinkles. It boosts circulation of your skin’s smallest blood vessels ensuring robust production of collagen.

Ginseng helps smooth and even out complexion. Rich in vitamins and minerals, it helps skin cells metabolize and exfoliates skin of dead skin cells to produce healthy new skin. It improves blood circulation, detoxifying and oxygenating skin cells which all work to contribute to healthy, glowing skin with an even complexion. As if these benefits for skin aren’t great enough, Ginseng also has many benefits for scalp and hair as well.

Ginseng has been shown to promote and stimulate hair growth. It strengthens hair follicles and thereby prevents hair loss. It improves the proliferation of dermal papilla cells which means that it stimulates the flow of blood to the scalp and thereby improves the health of hair follicles and cells. It encourages the growth of new hair strands and strengthens them to prevent breakage. It also fights dandruff and deeply nourishes hair to restore their luster.

Ginseng is a highly anti-aging, skin revitalizing root packed full of phyto-nutrients. Ginseng can help firm skin. The mask material "hydrogel" is composed from 95% organic aloe water) and 5% plant cellulose made to intensely hydrate. The longer you leave the mask on your skin, the thinner the hydrogel mask becomes because the water gets absorbed. The hydrogel assists in delivering active ingredients onto your skin.
