How to you use highlighters?

It’s time to get your glow on! Highlighting is back in fashion (yay!) and has become a makeup essential. Highlighting can have a dramatic impact on your face and can be used with or without a full face of makeup. There are a variety of types of highlighters that are available on the market. Let’s take a quick look at what these are.

Stick highlighters are the easiest highlighters to use. You don’t need a brush and the blending is kept to a minimum. As simple to use as a thick crayon, all you need to do is hit the right areas of your face (top of the cheekbones, under the brow bone, the inner eye corner etc) and just lightly blend in with your fingertips. If you are a newbie to highlighting, this is the highlighter for you. Try the All-Glowing Crème Highlighter by Au Naturale or the Highlight Stick by Vapour Beauty.

Powder highlighters are the most popular type of highlighters. An essential in every makeup junkie’s bag, powder highlighters can come either in loose form or as a pressed powder. These are highly pigmented so they are best used sparingly. They are applied with a highlighter brush as one of the last steps in a makeup routine. If this is the type of highlighter that suits your fancy, try the Pure Powder Highlighter by Au Naturale or The Alchemist Highlight Intensifier by Rituel de Fille.

If you fancy yourself a makeup pro, liquid highlighters are for you. The most versatile type of highlighters, these can be used to illuminate your foundation, define specific areas of your face, or even just add shimmer all over. Liquid highlighters are highly pigmented and you need to bring your A game when it comes to blending these to get the best results. Try the Liquid Light by Ilia Beauty or the HydraGlow by Clove + Hollow.

Another type of highlighter is a pot highlighter. These are ideal if you don’t generally wear a lot of makeup since they are the easiest to press into your skin without a base color. There are a multitude of options to choose from if this is the type of highlighter you are looking for including a wide range of highlighters by RMS Beauty.
