Natural Deodorant- The Detox for Your Armpits

On the Lymphatic system and armpit odour and detoxing deodorants.

Onto a smelly subject – body odour and armpits. Funnily enough, our armpits and body odour associated with them play an extremely important role in our overall health.

Our armpits are home to the most expansive network of lymph nodes in our body. Lymph nodes are part of the lymphatic system which makes up a part of your body’s immune system. The main function of this system is the excretion and elimination of toxins present in our body through sweating out of the skin. Our armpits and the sweat associated with them therefore play a key in the body’s waste elimination process.

Body odour is strongly linked to the health of the lymphatic system and the toxins present in the armpits. The armpits have a delicate balance of bacteria in their own microbiome. There is a very strong link between body odour and the presence of malodor-associated bacteria, in other words an imbalance in the microbiome. A lot of these can arise from the use of antiperspirant and traditional deodorants since many of the ingredients in these cosmetics can persist in the underarm skin up to 3-4 weeks after use. In the long run, the use of these can cause body odour to worsen. Body odour is one of the most obvious signs of an imbalance in hormones. So why do traditional deodorants and antiperspirants cause so much harm?

Well, sweat glands are one of the pathways for the lymphatic system to expel toxins from the body. The use of antiperspirant deodorants blocks the most concentrated sweat gland sites of your body – your armpits resulting in a blocking of toxins being released from the body. This causes toxins to build up inside the body and disrupts the natural microbiome of the armpits resulting in worsening body odour. Traditional deodorants also contain many harmful ingredients including endocrine disruptions chemicals which cause hormonal imbalances and suppress immune function. So not only are these deodorants wreaking havoc inside your body by causing a build-up of toxins, they also can create heavy metal toxicity by introducing aluminum, a common ingredient in traditional deodorants, into the body. This interference in the body’s natural detox pathways has been linked to long term major health effects like breast cancer or Alzheimer’s disease.

The case for switching to a natural deodorant is very strong. But this switch can be a very smelly one depending on the amount of toxin build-up, chemicals and bacteria present in your armpits, which can take up to 4 weeks to clear up and rebalance. This is where detoxing the armpits comes in. It helps draw out the toxins and restores the natural diversity of bacteria on the skin resulting in a re-establishment of the natural microbiome. The Takesumi Detox®️ by Kaia Naturals, available on our website, was specifically designed to detox the underarms and make the transition to natural deodorant easy and odour-free. It contains activated charcoal, apple cider vinegar and natural fermentation technology to fight odour-causing bacteria. The porous surface of the activated charcoal acts like a magnet, chemically binding bacteria and toxins and drawing them out. This amazing product not only helps our lymphatic system restore its normal function, but it ensures the process is odour-free and stress-free! What are you waiting for then? Start detoxing those pits and help your body restore its natural immune function.
